Holy Name Society |
THE MISSION OF OUR SOCIETY:
This group is open to all men of the parish who are 18 years of age or older. The Society stresses the spiritual needs of each member through attending Communion Sundays, setting a good example, and pledging against perjury, blasphemy, profanity and obscene speech and for loyalty to the flag of our country and support of all lawful authority.
The Society sponsors Sacred Heart School Scholarship programs, coordinates the Parish Men's Retreat, provides Mentoring for SHS children, arranges for adult Funeral Altar Servers to assist our clergy, and helping with other benevolent functions. This group conducts many fund-raising events such as suppers, theatrical shows, musicals, etc. to support all of the Society's and many Parish activities.

Our First January Speaker was Cindi Shanley, the Senior
Friends Advisor at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She described the extensive
services they make available for senior citizens. Call her at (800) 811-2513,
email: CythiaShanley@hcahealthcare.com, or go to www.seniorfriends.com
for more information.
Our Second January Speaker was Chief Bill Wrenn. He
enlightened us on our current situation here in Hampton relative to crime, drugs
and the new Police Station.
Our Third January Speaker was Jeremiah Lonergan. He is involved in the
Reading Program at Sacred Heart School where he reads stories out loud to the
students. He enjoys this volunteer effort, the students enjoy it, and he is
encouraging other Holy Name members to join with him on this worthwhile program.
